Blogging for Ten Years

dog bloggingAugust 2019 marks ten years since I have been publishing a blog each week.  On rare occasions I have missed a week, but recently I have been writing two per week.

I am no Seth Goden (he publishes a blog every single day), but I do have over 600 articles published on WordPress.

Over the years, several people have embellished or challenged some of my points, as I share the blog each week on LinkedIn.  I really enjoy the dialog and learn different perspectives by interfacing with people all over the world.

I have also met some wonderful people whom I now call friends by publishing on a regular basis.

Actually, I have my wife, Kay, to credit with success on the blog. She encouraged me to start documenting my ideas using a blog, but I resisted at first, indicating there was just not time in my busy schedule to compose a new blog each week.

Once I got into the habit, the writing actually has been an enjoyable release from the other pressures of life.  I try to bring up areas where people struggle and where I might have some helpful insights based on my background.

Kay helps me by reading and commenting on early drafts of each article. She cleans up the grammatical and punctuation errors but also lends a critical eye that often broadens my perspective before the article ever goes out.

I work ahead of time, so there is rarely a time when I am scrambling to finish an article.  I call it “working ahead of the power curve.”  Once you get the habit, you are free to write when you want and “polish” the article for a few weeks before other people read it.  The process lowers my stress and improves the quality of the product.

I write on all aspects of life, but my most frequent blogs are on the topics of leadership and trust, since they form the backbone of my teaching and consulting.

I hope you have enjoyed the blog over the years and thank those of you who have left comments and ideas. I also thank Kay for her dedicated and patient assistance with this project.

One key benefit is that I am building a library of my own beliefs that will forever be available to those who are interested. Whether or not others want to read the material, at least I will have some things to relive when I am too old to think straight.
